Shop Drop

A shop drop was successfully launched December 7th, 2010 at a local Barnes & Noble in Chico, California. Small bookmarks were place between pages of magazines. Simple statements, such as "You're Beautiful!" were inserted into women's fashion magazines. The purple writing above and the sheep logo bookmark below were two of four bookmarks distributed throughout the store. Bellow are two images of "shop dropped" magazines. Go to the 'Shop Drop' tab above to see even more photos of the shop drop!

To see more images of our shop drop go to the "Shop Drop" page.

For further research or personal interest please visit our "You Are Beautiful" page. There you can watch a trailer from the film America the Beautiful which documents beauty and its place in America, and view the Dove Evolution short which takes a look at the reality behind the images we see in the media.

Coming to a Shop Near You!

In response to the overwhelming number of magazines claiming there is something about us all that needs fixing, we've decided to make a claim of our own.

Daily Rhetorical Bombardment

Realistically, how many of us have time to inspect every single rhetorical force we encounter each day? At the checkout counter, magazines hawk the fashions and practices of the day in the guise of "advice;" newsstands frame our understanding of world events; the sides of buses put must-haves on parade; clothing companies charge top dollar for the privilege to be a walking advertisement; terms of agreement are blindly accepted. The general public is in constant over-load and, unfortunately, most of us respond by tuning out and going with the flow. As we become increasingly reliant on autopilot, we remove ourselves from the rhetorical process. We allow our role as the audience to be undervalued. We lose our ability to accept or reject the argument before us -- so that in the event an issue surfaces that does evoke a response, we feel powerless to join the discussion. Team Random is experimenting with introducing small breaks from the norm as a way to remind us all that, as the audience, we are already part of the discussion. We need to reclaim our voice!
